Management

Geoff is the UK Managing Director based in GZ’s London office. He is responsible for the strategic direction, operational leadership and financial performance of GZ’s UK business. Geoff is a Chartered Civil Engineer and experienced Director who held multiple leadership roles before joining GZ. He has more than 20 years of construction industry experience, primarily in the rail sector. He has a strong engineering background in structures and earthworks schemes with a speciality in multidisciplinary rail infrastructure design and delivery.

Thomas Martin has over 15 years of experience in civil and geotechnical engineering. He has played key roles in tunneling projects, providing design, inspection, and consulting services, with a focus on tunnel waterproofing and rehabilitation. Thomas has led national and international projects, including tunnel rehabilitations for BART and WMATA, and managed remediation efforts at Newport, Hoboken, and Chinatown Stations. His work has included inspections across the U.S. and internationally, and he has extensive knowledge of remediation methods like chemical grout injections and waterproofing. As Area Manager Virginia, he leverages this expertise to ensure project success for his clients.

Hamid leads GZ’s Canadian office. He has over 30 years of experience working on major infrastructure projects across different sectors in Transportation, Transit, Water/Wastewater, Utilities and Energy with specific expertise in design, construction, and project management of large-scale tunnel projects for underground station, cavern, subway, LRT, grade separation, and dam. He has expertise in implementing and leading design teams, and is experienced in risk management, cost estimating, rock mechanics, geotechnical and different construction techniques in varying ground conditions for tunnelling in high density urban area under high rise building, highway, bridges, and rail.

Holding a comprehensive background of responsibilities as project engineer, reviewer, engineering coordinator and area lead as Owner’s Engineer, he has also project management experience during construction. Recently he has been assigned as an independent engineering reviewer for the large scale Alto Maipo hydropower scheme.

Dr. Sahay leads GZ’s India Office and brings over 20 years of experience in infrastructure project development and management. He earned his Ph.D. in Earth Science from IIT Roorkee, focusing on brittle and ductile deformation along the Great Boundary Fault Zone in Rajasthan. Dr. Sahay has deep expertise in geological investigations, rock mass classification, and geotechnical synthesis. His project work includes major railway tunnel projects such as the USBRL-Kashmir Rail Link and Sevoke-Rangpo, as well as numerous hydro power developments across the challenging Himalayan terrain.

Corporate Services Leads

Joining GZ nearly 10 years ago, Samantha brings over 17 years of expertise in accounting, finance, and administration to the team. As the Financial Controller, she leads all financial operations for the US and Canada, from project controls and analysis to the company’s invoicing and contract management for our projects. Samantha’s role also extends to overseeing payroll and human resources, reflecting her comprehensive skillset in keeping our operations running smoothly.

Eileen has 10 years of marketing and media experience, on both the client and agency side, in developing, executing and monitoring marketing as well as media campaigns. As Marketing and Communications Director, Eileen is responsible for the development and execution of marketing activities for GZ’s market in the Americas. She is responsible for the maintenance and coordination of GZ’s online presence. As part of this task, Eileen supervised the development of a new website for GZ and directly coordinated the communication between GZ’s management and external service provider.

With over 25 years of experience in accounting, finance, and administration, Marlon plays a key role in supporting the financial health and operational efficiency of GZ’s UK office. In his role, he oversees invoicing and timesheet management for GZ’s UK tunneling projects. Marlon’s responsibilities extend to a broad range of financial and administrative functions, including banking and finance operations, reconciliation of bank statements and financial reports, managing payables and receivables, and payroll administration.

Inderpreet is a Distinguished Chartered Accountant, highly accomplished and focused Sr. Financial Controller for the India region at GZ with proven competencies in Strategic Financial planning and expertise in Operations Management. He is noted for his strong leadership, team building and coaching to mentees and other team members across group. He has vast experience of more than 21 years as a Chartered Accountant and Administration Role. He is proactive with a total commitment to streamlining operations and controlling costs. He is focused on values, corporate objectives and strategic planning to directly impact success, growth and profits of the business.

Neil has more than 37 years industry experience. His vast experience ranges from design engineer and design project manager to leading major tunnel projects in the UK and internationally. He has concentrated on the work related to large diameter metro tunnels in urban areas. He has spent considerable time working on tunnel construction sites where roles ranged from TBM engineer to temporary works designer and included liaising with third parties and the general public on settlement related issues. As a tunnel lead member of a large authority, he directed a series of underground constructions for new schemes as well as rehabilitation projects.

Dr. Higuchi has over 20 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and has worked on numerous projects including flood defence management, coastal engineering, ports/maritime, bridges, highways, rail system buildings/basements and tunnelling. He is familiar with various aspects of geotechnical engineering from ground investigation to foundation design and soil-structure interaction analyses based on 2D/3D FEM. Recently, he has been involved in the design of TBM launch/reception portals and derivation of geotechnical design parameters for the HS2 Chiltern Tunnel, Tideway Blackfriars micro tunnelling for gas main diversion and the potential damage assessment of Knightsbridge Underground station.

Nikolaos has more than 20 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and tunnel construction with both NATM/SEM and TBM methods. He is well-versed in tunneling in challenging ground conditions with expertise in face logging, rockmass classification, implementation of support measures, tunnel rehabilitation and ground improvement. He has worked on landmark projects in Europe and USA (Athens Metro, Egnatia Motorway, Crossrail, East Side Access) in conditions ranging from drill and blast to squeezing ground.

Louis’s career has spanned 45 years where he has been involved in the design/construction of a thermal generating station, highway, tunnels using hard rock and EPBM tunnel boring machines, drill & blast, shotcrete, ground improvement (permeation grouting, slurry wall, ground freezing), construction/project management (DBB, DB), cost control, budgeting, scheduling, quality management, and manufacturing of precast concrete segmental tunnel liners of various sizes. He has worked on various large projects in Canada, Africa, and US. He is very engaged in industry forums and a member of various associations; ASCE, SME, NAT, DRBF.

Wolfgang has more than 19 years of international experience in the design of tunnels and underground structures in different ground conditions across Europe, North and South America, Middle East and Australia. His experience ranges from metro projects and high-speed rail projects to water conveyance projects, executed by conventional (NATM, SEM) and mechanized (TBM) construction methods. He formed part of and managed multi-disciplined and multi-cultural teams carrying out feasibility studies, basic designs, and detailed designs. Furthermore, he acts as a BIM manager, implementing procedures in BIM and Digital Construction for several projects.

Thomas is a Chartered Engineer with over 25 years of experience in design and construction on mayor transportation and tunnel projects in UK, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Saudi Arabia and US. He has delivered a number of high profile, complex public infrastructure transportation projects including HS2, Riyadh Metro, Crossrail, Gotthard tunnel and German highspeed rail. Thomas’s experience covers on multi-discipline project teams, project management, site supervision, tunnel detailed design, multidisciplinary design coordination and managing complex stakeholders.

Following a move to Washington DC, John oversaw the design and construction of 106-miles of Metrorail as WAMTA’s Chief Civil/Structural Engineer for over 30 years. Afterwards, John served as the Design-Builder’s Chief Project Engineer and EOR for the DC Silver Line Phase-1. John has supervised the design and construction of numerous underground stations, 40+ miles of tunnels, and over 15 miles bridges and viaducts. He currently contributes to the Washington-Baltimore Maglev Project, the Gateway Tunnel, Hampton Road Tunnel, and our VTA, BART & WMATA work.

Roland has 34 years of experience in construction, construction management and quality control of structures. He is well experienced in various tunneling and shaft sinking methods. He has been involved in a number of international projects. He has an impeccable track record of timely completion, safety and quality assurance. Throughout his career he has gained experience with tunneling in different geological conditions, ranging from hard rock to complex soft ground settings. Roland is also specialized in tunneling under compressed air and in tunneling supported by ground freezing applications.

Eleanor is a chartered civil engineer with over 20 years of international experience in tunnel construction management, quality/budget control, time/progress monitoring, on-site supervision, and design of Sequential Excavation method (SEM) or (NATM) tunnels, Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) tunnels, cut-and-cover, Underground Stations, shafts, caverns in the US, UK, Spain, Georgia, and South America. She has worked for both engineering consultants and contractors, adding a combined experience in design and construction of large underground projects. Eleanor has worked/managed major infrastructure projects like Crossrail (UK), Shuakhevi Hydropower Project (Georgia), and Purple Line Extension Section 3 (LA).

His work prior to GZ primarily focused on methods to better understand and characterize uncertainty in geology as it relates to tunneling projects. He has been involved in several projects in North and South America, reviewing and interpreting geological, geotechnical, and hydrological information and performing research to solve complex problems. He has also served as an on-site inspector for both site investigations and remediation work.

Petr has over 15 years of experience in the realization of underground civil engineering structures. As a contractor, he was involved in various tunneling projects, especially in Central Europe, using both TBM and SEM methods. He earned his master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Czech Technical University in Prague. Among his activities is membership in the Czech Tunneling Association, where he also leads the working group for mechanized tunneling. Using his project realization skills and knowledge of TBM and segment designing and tunnel work realization, he is currently involved in the Frederick Douglass Tunnel project.

Walter has more than 20 years of experience in conventional tunneling, including the Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) and mechanized tunneling using tunnel boring machines (TBMs). He is well versed in geotechnical design, site investigation and construction services for tunnel and underground civil engineering projects. Walter is highly proficient in the evaluation and interpretation of geotechnical data for tunneling projects and has extensive knowledge of implementing comprehensive field and laboratory testing programs. Walter is well versed in shotcrete lining installation, waterproofing and final lining installation.

Her areas of expertise include geo-structural design and construction, blast design and analysis, ground improvement, grouting, deep foundations, and seismic analyses of geotechnical structures. Dr. Kundu has contributed to notable projects such as VTA’s BSVII, DCCR’s Potomac River Tunnel, Ellicott City North Tunnel, Rondout West Branch Tunnel, and North East Link.

Michael has 11 years of experience predominantly in performing design calculations and developing shop drawings for various support of excavations systems, large diameter tunnel initial support systems, and pipe jacking projects. He is familiar with steel, concrete, and timber design for SOE and tunnelling methods. Michael has complimented his design work with experience on site filling roles as a site engineer and designer’s representative for infrastructure projects including the Silvertown Tunnel Project in London, UK.

He has delivered a number of high profile, complex public infrastructure transportation projects including components of HS2, Riyadh Metro, Crossrail, Hong Kong Cross Harbour Tunnel and London 2012 Olympic Park. Yuan’s experience covers project management, site supervision, tunnel detailed design, Finite Element analyses, multidisciplinary design coordination and managing complex stakeholders.

David collected 12 years design and construction experience on civil, transportation and tunnel projects in UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. David’s experience ranges from development of detailed design and specifications, CAT 3 independent design checks to potential damage assessments and GI data analyses. Using his project management skills and proficiency in working on multi-discipline project teams, he is involved in a variety of tunnel and infrastructure projects including the HS2 Chiltern Tunnel.

Timothy has over 10 years of experience and has been involved in numerous domestic and international tunneling projects. He has two Masters degrees and is completing his PhD in Geology. His graduate work focused on geological hazards, Archaean igneous intrusions and development of proto-planetary bodies of the early solar system using paleomagnetism. Timothy has extensive experience in geological exploration and mapping throughout the construction process as well as experience with the Sequential Excavation Method (SEM), including the development and implementation of SEM in both hard rock and soft ground.

Her professional activities range from analysis and design, to construction support. She is experienced in using two-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical modeling programs for underground structure analysis. Recently Dr. Riahi has been involved in performing underground excavation analysis and support design, preparation of reports, as well as construction management support services for tunnel rehabilitation projects.

Rushi has a cumulative 5 years of experience in rock and geotechnical engineering, the design of underground structures, slope stabilization in rock and soil, and ground movement assessment. His numerical modeling experience includes 3D and 2D analysis for tunnels and slopes using various numerical tools. He is also experienced in conducting detailed design and design checks for tunnel lining, TBM segments, shafts, and underground structures. Additionally, he has experience in tendering, estimation, and pre-bid works. Rushi also serves as the representative of the Tunnelling Association of India’s Young Members on global level.

Kagiso has 15 years of experience predominantly in Mining Geomechanics for large scale underground and open pit excavations in hard rock. He has also been involved in conceptual designs, feasibility studies and construction of tailings storage facilities across Europe and West Africa. His professional activities range from mining operation support for various mining methods, stability analysis through finite element modelling in soil and rock, excavation design and construction quality assurance. Recently he has been involved in the OCI design stage for the  Lower Thames Crossing Tunnel Project in London, UK
