HS2 – October a record-breaking month

The Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) for HS2 – C1 continue making great progress as excavation proceeds under the Chilterns. Progress for TBMs Florence and Cecilia currently stand at 14.1km and 13.8km respectively. Florence set a weekly and monthly excavation record for the project in October, advancing 232m in a week and 842m for the month. Collectively, both machines advanced a total of 1,562m in October. Cross passage construction is advancing as well, with mining completed on 19 of the 38 cross passages and two of the shaft adits. The breakthrough for both TBMs is set for Q1 2024.

Gall Zeidler Consultants (GZ), as part of the Align JV team, provided the design for all cross passages, the ground treatment design, and are serving as a geotechnical specialist with on-site support during construction.
