Gall Zeidler Awarded by American Shotcrete Association

Gall Zeidler Consultants is excited to announce that we have been awarded an Honorable Mention at the Tenth Annual Outstanding Project Award from the American Shotcrete Association for the “Liberty Tunnel Rehabilitation Phase IV” project. The award was announced February 3rd, 2015 in Las Vega, Nevada.

Crossrail: Who wants to work in a tunnel?

An article recently published by bbc.com highlights the men and women working on the construction of the Crossrail Project, a project containing 23 miles of tunnels currently being constructed under London. The article particularly emphasizes the training which these employees received in order to work on the Crossrail Project, as well as the pride these men and women take in helping to reshape the London Underground.  When completed, the project will connect to 37 train stations, and provide approximately 1.5 million people a 45 minute train ride into the heart of London.  GZ continues to play a major role on the Crossrail Project, including both design and construction support services. Inside the Vast Tunnels of Europe’s Biggest Infrastructure Project

An article recently published by gizmodo.com which highlights the Crossrail Project, a project containing 23 miles of tunnels which is currently being constructed in London. When completed, the project will provide 1.5 million people a 45 minute train ride into the heart of London.  The project will also create 10 new stations.  GZ has played a major role on the Crossrail Project, including both design and construction support services. Gall Zeidler Presents at Andean Seminar

Vojtech Gall, accompanied by GZ’s South American representative Andrés Giraldo, presented at the 9th Andean Seminar on Tunnels and Underground Works featuring ‘The Challenges Of Underground Engineering’ in Bogotá, Colombia held this year on the 6th and 7th of November at the Hotel Casa Dann Carlton. The Andean Seminar is presented by ACTOS, the Colombian Tunneling Association.   Dr. Gall presented “Versatile Tunneling Methods For Difficult Soft Ground Conditions In Urban Areas.”, a presentation of 9 different projects around the world, showing tunnel design and implementation on dense urban settings as New York, Washington D.C. and London. SIlver Line “Ready For its Close Up”

On July 27th, DC Metro’s Silver Line Phase 1 opened for passenger service, as discussed in this article.  Silver Line Phase 1 will extend existing metro service to a total of 5 new stations located throughout Tysons Corner and Reston, Virginia.  The construction of the Silver Line presented many unique challenges, including the design of NATM mined running tunnels under Tysons Corner with extremely low overburden.  Silver Line Phase 2 will extend the Silver Line to Dulles International Airport and Loudon County. American Experience – Inside the Tunnels

An upcoming episode of “American Experience” airing on PBS will detail the MTA’s East Side Access project.  When completed, the project will connect the Long Island Rail Roads (LIRR) Main and Port Washington lines in Queens to a new LIRR terminal beneath Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.  The cavern shown in the preview video will be part of the terminal.  GZ has played a major role on The East Side Access Project, including both design and construction support services.  Click here to watch a preview of the upcoming episode.

Digging London’s Newest Tunnel

An article recently published by theatlanticcities.com discusses the continuing construction of the Crossrail in London.  Crossrail, a 15 billion pound railway link connecting east and west London and Europe’s largest infrastructure project, will open in four years’ time and is now half complete, on budget and on schedule.  GZ has played a major role on Crossrail, including both design and construction support services.  On an historically interesting note, a large number of remains, which have been identified as belonging to Black Death victims have been discovered during construction.  Click here to read the article.
